I saw the movie Nomadland for the first time this weekend and can recommend it. I understand why it won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is so realistic it could be a documentary. It is a great tribute to all hard working blue collar workers around America. I think it would be a good movie for high school students to learn economics 101 to watch what could happen if a good paying job suddenly is gone because a corporation closes down the plant in their town. It is too bad there weren’t more job opportunities for Fern in the small town where her home was.
Nomadland isn’t as fun as 2007’s Into the Wild (to be fair Into the Wild was more like an adventure movie), but it is much more realistic. Thank you to Jessica Bruder for her book and for Chloe Zhao, Frances McDormand, and the producers for giving us such a good, realistic tribute to all the unsung, non-famous people working so hard around America.
